Well done to all of our students who competed at the TISAC primary badminton competition yesterday. Especially T-rex, who won a Gold Medal in the singles U11. Great work T-rex!
5P BAKED A HUGE AMOUNT OF TASTY BREAD FROM DIFFERENT COUNTRIES AS PART OF THEIR END OF TOPIC FEAST. AFTER SOME RESEARCH THEY DECIDED TO MAKE PIZZA FROM ITALY, NAAN FROM INDIA, SODA FROM IRELAND AND SCONES FROM SCOTLAND. YUM!
This week we have had a lot of successful students, competing in the cross country events and also outside of school in various competitions.
Well done to Trex who won the second runner up in Boy Double U11 with 40 opponents at "JIB Badminton Youth 2018" Pathumthani.
and Veronica for completing her 5K run in a Very Speedy 20 minutes at BITEC Bangna.
Last week was International Art week and we had a fantastic time, studying artists from North America.
First we looked at Native American tribal art (Haida) and made totem poles with symbolic animals and creatures. Next, we studied Andy Warhol's contemporary pop-art and created our own printed self portraits. Finally, we looked at the abstract expressionist 'drip paintings' of Jackson Pollock, which inspired us to paint our own drip creations.
Which is your favourite?
Year 5 have been learning the Japanese art of Happa Zome. They collected plants and flowers then hammered them to make an imprint on cloth. This was a very noisy but fun lesson!
This week for 'One World Week', the students chose a global goal they felt passionate about and worked really hard to achieve it within our community.
Ocean protection group: they wrote a very persuasive letter to 7 eleven to ask them to ban plastic straws in their store.
Climate group: They found facts about the environment and decided that we could all help the environment by cutting out meat once a week. As a result they created a petition and got over 200 signatures!
Clean energy group: They researched a lot about energy! They found the costs of the current electricity bill at Charter and the cost of implementing solar energy. They decided it would be expensive to convert to solar energy but eventually we could have free electricity!
Gender equality: They decided to interview both male and female teachers and students to find out how the feel about or are effected by their genders. They decided that they are very lucky to attend a school where everyone has equal opportunities, so they made a video to persuade those in less gender equal environments.
Water & sanitation group: They thought about ways to save fresh water, they met with Khun Ton (facilities manager) to persuade him to collect rain to water the plants around the school.
Food waste: They set up a meeting with the Charter food committee to advise them to persuade the charter canteen staff to work with them to reduce food waste. They propose that food portions should be smaller and that any excess food from the bin is used for a compost heap.
Well done 5p!
